P. W. Steel and Machine

I haven't found out much about this machine shop but it is interesting to look around inside. Many of the tools date from the WWII era or before, but most people I talk to think it was in use much later than this. It was not abandoned too many years ago and has since been scavenged for small tools leaving behind all the giant machines. There are drills and taps up to 3" and the lathe will take an 18" turning so some very large and heavy items were worked on here. There is a large steel beam down the middle of the shop which still has a suspended hoist so large items could be lifted and moved from one end of the shop to the other. Parts of the shop look like the machinist just walked out. Only ghosts and gawkers prowl now.

  1. Gary,
Have you found the "tombstone" by harbor that proclaims Midway as being the last place that the Easter Sunrise comes up?
