Spinner Dolphins and Eastern Island

Today, we again spent a morning on Eastern Island. This time we had the morning to explore and bird watch. The weather was gray and cloudy but no rain. We spent about 3 hours on the island and on the way back to Sand Island we came upon a pod of Spinner Dolphins. The estimates varied but most of us guessed 80-100 animals. They were very tame and stayed around the boat for 10 or 15 minutes. Much of the time they were within 8-10 feet of the boat. They get their name from acrobatic displays of spinning and jumping out of the water. We saw this behavior within 20 or 30 feet of the boat. Unfortunately my timing was not good enough to get a picture of one of the animals in mid spin.

  1. That sounds really cool. It looks like the temperature was cool, too. Are you still staying warm? After our discussion the other night, about the hydroponic garden, I was thinking that would make an interesting post. Hope you're well. Hannah
